Twitter and Facebook and Blogging…Oh My!

Do you know how many times I hear, “I don’t have time to blog, or post on Twitter or Facebook.
Too many times to mention!
The fact is, being an author is a business and this is part of the business. I tell my clients all the time that they have to make time. We never say we don’t have time to do our day job. Well sometimes we do but we go and do our job anyway. Your book business is no different. You will get out of it what you put into it. You have to make time.
Let’s think about it a minute. The exposure is amazing. You are now able to reach people you were never able to reach before.
That being said, isn’t it worth it to spend a little time updating your blog?
Let your publicist know every time you update your blog. They will know how to get the word out to others and it takes a bit of the pressure off of you.
I believe that to be successful in the book business, you can’t throw money at it. Spend some time and it will grow.

Happy Writing!

So how often would a publicist expect me to update my blog? I've connected it to facebook and twitter so updating it updates them too, though it didn't seem to add an awful lot of pageviews.

Hi Sheila,
The more the better but I do know that it takes time. I would say at least a couple times per week. You have to be consistent. You can also post or have your publicist post on other social networks when you update. You should also try to comment on blogs that share your interest. That will help get people back to your blog and web site. I know it sounds like a lot but if you give it a bit of time it will pay off. Many of these steps I do for my clients. You could have your publicist do the same for you.
Thanks for checking out my blog. I look forward to talking with you again.

Time IS money. How often we forget that. We need to be reminded--as you have. Thanks.

The only way to get people to view and read your blog is to be active in the blogging community. That means you follow and comment on other blogs with similar interests as your own. It takes time and effort to do this, and of course, patience.

Yes time is money that's for sure. It's hard to juggle everything but with time you will see a payoff.
Thanks for commenting on my blog. I look forward to talking with you again soon

Laura,
You are so right! Marketing is not a race but a marathon. So many want immediate gratification but it doesn't work that way. Thanks for responding to my blog. Talk with you soon.

I guess I can cope with two or three times a week. Should they predictable times? (They're definitely not at the moment.) I can cope with making contacts, but staying in touch with contacts can be a bit sporadic.

Sheila,
In my opinion just blogging consistently is the key. You don't have to blog the same time every day. Just blog and make sure you go to the different social networks and send out an update that you added to your blog.
Also, if you didn't already click on "follow up comments will be sent to... Then you will know when someone leaves a comment.
Talk with you soon.
